Yuriy Shakhoian is an artist, sculptor, and jeweler who creates series of works in a variety of media, including ceramics, wood, and metal, as well as monumental works in concrete.
He was born and raised in Tbilisi, the hometown of several generations of Shakhoian's ancestors, which heavily influenced the artist's distinctive style. The second factor determining his creativity is Yuriy's passion for history and ethnography, which is reflected in numerous references to antiquity, and the bizarre interweaving of cultures and epochs in his art.
Now Shakhoian lives in Novosibirsk, Russia with his wife and two daughters.
Yuriy has exhibited his artwork in several collective and personal exhibitions:
2019 - Abakan
2020 - Moscow
2019 - Magadan: II International Festival of Bone Carving Art of The Nations of The World. First place award for Innovations.
2019: Launch of the Immersive Gallery Project 'Eternity Game'. Eternity Game Project is the way to comprehend history through the transformation of familiar images. The artist doesn't really model forms, but rather transforms them, carving new images over and over again. In his artwork Shakhoian creates a new coordinate system, playing with timeless subjects in art- masks, reliefs on surfaces, and turning them into contemporary art by means of video mapping there for all to see.
At the moment Yuriy is working on public art project – mask sculpture.
